The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has dismissed Russia's statement that it did not violate the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances guaranteeing Ukraine's nuclear-free status.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry’s comments that Russia has not violated the December 5, 1994 Budapest Memorandum in any way […] doesn’t hold water in terms of international law and the existing realities,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a news conference in Kyiv on Monday.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry took notice of all comments the Russian Foreign Ministry had made in the past several days concerning Ukraine, he said.

By circulating negative information on the situation in Ukraine, “the Kremlin is apparently trying to conceal some deep problems in their own country,” he said.

Moscow said in an April 1 statement that it could not accept any accusations of violating the December 5, 1994 Budapest Memorandum.
