Joint-stock company Kyivstar has asked mobile operators MTS Ukraine, Astelit and TriMob to consider the possibility of providing national roaming in war-torn zone, Kyivstar CEO Peter Chernyshov wrote on his Facebook page on March 11.
He said that the operator had failed to restore the provision of services in parts of Donetsk Oblast due to the operator’s office in Donetsk being seized by armed persons, and that accidents in the network occur often in war-torn zone.
“We’ve decided to use the alternative way and sent official letters to MTS Ukraine, Astelit (the life 🙂 brand) and TriMob with a proposal to consider the possibility of providing national roaming in war-torn zone. This would have allowed for minimizing the consequences of the frequent accidents and failures with communications in those districts of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts which repair teams cannot reach,” he said.
Chernyshov said that, taking into account the difficult economic situation in Donbas, the operator had presented an initiative of setting a symbolic fee for traffic at one kopeck per call.
