You're reading: Lavrov criticizes attempts to derail Minsk agreements for Ukraine

Attempts have been made to disrupt the implementation of the peace agreements for Ukraine, secured at talks in the Belarusian capital Minsk in February, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

“The Minsk agreements of Feb. 12 are now being implemented with regard to Ukraine. This process has not been smooth and has encountered attempts to derail it. Nonetheless, the overwhelming majority of states want them to be implemented orderly and in full,” he said at a meeting with Russian non-governmental organizations in Moscow.

An approach calling for a national dialogue inside Ukraine should prevail in today’s situation, Lavrov said.

“Sentiments surrounding Syria are changing today, and all people realize the need to promote a national dialogue and allow the Syrians themselves to determine their country’s future. I am convinced that such an approach will prevail in Ukraine as well,” the Russian minister said.
