MOSCOW - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the working groups for the settlement in Ukraine in Minsk on Tuesday made progress on several key issues, particularly those related to the withdrawal of armaments and local elections in Donbas.

“Yesterday’s meeting of working groups that took place in Minsk did not reach the final result on any of the discussed issues. Nevertheless, there was a forward movement, in particular on the demilitarization of Shyrokyne, the inclusion of artillery and mortars of less than 100mm caliber in the list of armaments to be withdrawn. There is certain advancement in several other directions,” Lavrov said at a Moscow press conference on June 3.

Among them he named “questions of launching direct consultations between Kyiv, Donetsk and Luhansk on preparing local elections.”

“I will not anticipate things, but there is headway, quite positive. It is important now that everything that was agreed upon would be fully accomplished. New dates for subgroups have been set,” Lavrov said.
