Vilnius -- Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite sees no reason for lifting sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia.
“There are no grounds to talk about lifting the sanctions, as the situation, and the Russian actions in eastern Ukraine and elsewhere, has not changed, therefore, the reasons for imposing them remain valid,” Grybauskaite said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Lithuanian president says that “a dialogue [with Russia] is practically impossible” at the moment.
Grybauskaite says that the “EU has only applied targeted sanctions, which are not aimed at the Russian nation and the people of Russia,” and that they have already demonstrated results.
Earlier this week, French President Francois Hollande suggested that the sanctions imposed by Western countries on Russia may be lifted if progress is made on resolving the situation in Ukraine.
