Luhansk - The self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) is not dependent on thermal power plants in Kyiv-controlled territories, head of the LPR reconstruction management center Alexander Drobot claimed.
“The entire territory of the LPR has been connected to power grids of the Russian Federation. I can say that the energy security of our republic is 90% guaranteed,” Drobot told reporters.
According to Drobot, the Schastia thermal power plant is immaterial to militia-controlled lands. “If, for some reason, the Schastia TPP is unable to supply electric power to the territory controlled by the Luhansk People’s Republic, the republic can get electricity directly from the Russian Federation,” he said.
It was reported earlier that the Luhansk thermal power plant, a component of DTEK Skhidenergo, situated in the town of Schastia in the Luhansk region, might suspend operations due to lack of coal.
The DTEK press service reported that only 2,000 tonnes of coal remained in the Luhansk thermal power plant’s warehouses as of December 3, which was sufficient for one or two days at minimal output. The coal reserves of the Luhansk thermal power plants were depleted because deliveries stopped on November 26.
