DONETSK - Volodymyr Kononov, the defense minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), claims that the militias have fully taken Donetsk airport under control.
‘We are in full control of the airport. The Ukrainian forces are trying to knock us out of there, and they are destroying the airport as a site,’ Kononov told journalists in reply to a question from Interfax on Saturday.
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Petro Mekhed said the Ukrainian forces were continuing to defend Donetsk airport.
‘We won’t cede the territory that our servicemen are defending now, namely Donetsk airport, to anyone,’ Mekhed said at a news conference in Kyiv on Saturday.
