You're reading: Minsk agreements only cover Donbas, discussion of Crimea a separate issue – presidential administration

The Ukrainian presidential administration has stated that the Crimea issue has not been removed from the agenda of talks with the international partners of Ukraine.

“The Minsk agreements deal with Donbas only. In other words, the matter concerns the settlement of the situation in Donbas and returning [Ukrainian] sovereignty to Donbas by peaceful means. Talks about Crimea are a separate story, a separate direction for settlement,” deputy head of presidential administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev told journalists on Oct. 5.

According to him, “Donbas is a preparatory stage to bring Crimea back under Ukraine’s wing.”

“If we lose Donbas, how could we demand the return of Crimea to Ukraine,” Yeliseyev said, adding that he has no doubts that Donbas and Crimea will return to Ukraine sooner or later.
