Astana -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is planned to have an informal meeting with German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Jan. 9. 

The meeting will be held consistent with the agreements reached during the Dec. 27 telephone conversation, the Kazakh president’s press service said on Thursday.

The negotiations will center on bilateral cooperation and the Ukraine situation, the press service said.

In addition, the Kazakh president will meet with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the German request, it said.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on December 29, 2014, that the next “Normandy format” summit dedicated to the peace process in Ukraine would take place in Astana on Jan. 15.
