Since the Ukrainian military began trading artillery and small arms fire with the separatist regions of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples Republics a year and a half ago, the United Nations High Commisioner for Refugees has registered over 1.4 million residents of eastern Ukraine displaced by the fighting. But for many more, leaving their home is not an option.
