NEW YORK - Monitors from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have observed a rise in the number of truce violations in Donbas, says Alexander Hug, deputy chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM).

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Friday, he said that by SMM estimates, the level of violence (in eastern Ukraine) has risen and ceasefire violations are occurring more often.

Both parties to the conflict continue setting up their military positions close to civilian assets, which leads to a rise in civilian deaths and injuries, Hug said.

The humanitarian situation in the conflict zone continues raising serious concerns, he said.
