Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that Sunday's unlawful elections in the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk republics were a crude violation of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the conflict in southeastern Ukraine.

The situation in southeastern Ukraine is “a farce at pistols’ and tanks’ point,” Poroshenko said, according to the presidential press service.

Ukraine will not recognize this farce, Poroshenko was quoted as saying.

“The leading countries and international organizations have already condemned the so-called elections. I hope Russia will not recognize these pseudo-elections, either, as they represent a flagrant violation of the Minsk Protocol of Sept. 5, signed by a Russian representative, as well,” Poroshenko said.

All elections held in Ukrainian territory, where Ukrainian citizens cast their ballots, must proceed exclusively in compliance with the Ukrainian legislation,” he also said.
