You're reading: Poroshenko enacts legislation criminalizing financing of separatism

 Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed into law a bill amending the Ukrainian Criminal Code regarding criminal liability for the financing of separatism.

 The Ukrainian presidential press service reports that, in line with the law, the financing of activities aimed at changing the boundaries of Ukraine’s territory or its state border in violation of the procedure stipulated by the constitution shall be punished by 3 to 5 years of imprisonment, with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or pursue certain activities for up to 2 years and confiscation of property.

“The financing of actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional system or seizing power shall be punished by 5 to 7 years of imprisonment, with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or pursue certain activities for up to 2 years and with confiscation of property,” it said.
