Shooting in the antiterrorist operation zone in Donbas has been stopped owing to the observance of the Minsk agreements, says Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“The Minsk agreements are working. Who wants to be assured of this, look at the shelling statistics. I don’t wear rose-colored glasses, and therefore we need to reinforce our army and be prepared for their disruption,” Poroshenko said at a meeting of the Regional Development Council in Kyiv on Sept. 9.

There has been silence at the frontline since August 29 for the first time in the past year and a half, he said.

“Yesterday, the day before yesterday and today there has not been a single shot. There was an incident in the Luhansk region, and there was a combat clash with a sabotage and reconnaissance group outside the contact line. And the enemy paid a high price for the sabotage work against us,” he said.

The future of the constitutional amendments in Ukraine depends on general progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements and “on the policy that we are pursuing and it should also motivate Russia to pursue through common and well-coordinated efforts,” he said.
