You're reading: Putin, Russian Security Council discuss implementation of Minsk agreements on Ukraine

Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin has had an operative meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov said.

“The meeting participants had a detailed discussion of the implementation of the agreements on the settlement of the situation in southeastern Ukraine, which were signed in Minsk last week, with regard for the phone contacts in the ‘Normandy format” and also in the context of the new consultations planned for the nearest future,” Peskov said.

“Members of the Russian Security Council also heavily condemned the barbaric killings in Libya of Egyptian Christians by ISIS terrorists,” Peskov said.

“The meeting participants extended their deep condolences to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and all people of Egypt,” he said.

“The meeting participants emphasized that the expansion of the geography of the terrorist acts carried out by the ISIS and Islamic extremism in general causes special concerns,” Peskov said.

The meeting also addressed some issues on the domestic Russian agenda, Peskov said.

Among the participants of the meeting were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin, presidential administration head Sergei Ivanov, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov, Security Council Secretary Rashid Nurgaliyev, and permanent Security Council member Boris Gryzlov.
