Russia has not permitted the transit of coal from militant-controlled Ukrainian mines across the Russian-Ukrainian border, Ukrainian First Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Ziukov has said.

“Russia has not officially given the permission. There were plans to transport [coal] by rail, ensuring its transit through Russia, Rostov region and entry into Ukraine. Today this scheme, unfortunately, does not work,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Nov. 3.

As reported, due to the destruction of railway tracks in Donbas there is a problem with the delivery of coal from the mines run by DTEK Rovenkiantracit and DTEK Sverdlovantracit and a number of state mining enterprises. In this regard, it was planned to carry coal through Russia, with its subsequent transportation to Ukrainian thermal power plants through Kharkiv Oblast.
