ANKARA - The governments of Russia and Turkey will negotiate measures to stimulate trade between the two countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Dec. 1.

“Mr. Erdogan and I have come to an agreement that the governments of our countries will work through concrete measures to further stimulate mutual trade flows, step up cooperation, primarily in the high-tech sector and agriculture,” Putin told a news conference after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Putin said that this year the two nations had been able to reverse negative trends in their trade that were in place in 2013 and boosted their trade by 0.5 percent to nearly $33 billion.

He said the two governments seek to provide all forms of support for joint new science-intensive projects.

He mentioned that the Turkish-language version of Russian search engine Yandex is building up its presence on the Internet, and said Moscow and Ankara believe there exist extensive opportunities for cooperation in metal production, the manufacture of motor vehicles and light industry, and would like transportation and infrastructure joint ventures to be set up.
