Moscow - A statement by Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird about Russian forces allegedly advancing towards the Ukrainian border is groundless, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
“The statement quoted certain reports and did not offer any factual evidence but the traditional hoary “arguments” based on rumors from social networking services,” a ministry spokesman told reporters on Nov. 7.
“We would like to stress that any provocative “reports” of the kind which are aimed at escalating tensions around the civil conflict in southeastern Ukraine have the same source. It does not have a Ukrainian origin although it is located at an administrative building in Kyiv,” the spokesman said.
He said the Russian Defense Ministry had paid attention to Baird’s statement and “the statements U.S. and NATO had made earlier to express their concern about Russian troops allegedly approaching the Ukrainian border.”
The Defense Ministry asked “Western partners to address their concerns about fictional information regarding the Russian Armed Forces directly to the source who is making it up,” the spokesman said.
