BRUSSELS - Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov met in Brussels on June 4 with European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Elmar Brok to provide him with "necessary clarifications" on the transfer of the Russian sanctions list to EU representatives, the Russian mission to the EU said in a statement on its website.

Othmar Karas, the head of the European Parliament’s delegation to the
Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, was also present at the
meeting.

“Both Parties took a negative view of the dissemination in the media of
confidential information containing personal data. The Ambassador expressed his
apprehension at the noisy campaign launched following the deliberate leak of the
‘stop-list’, whose existence the European Parliament and other EU institutions
had been well aware of,” it said.

“He pointed out that, as the Russian stop-list’ has been adopted as a
responsive measure, its revision, including with regard to MEPs concerned, is
conditional on the lifting of unilateral unfounded measures adopted earlier by
the European Union against Russian citizens, including members of the Federal
Assembly of the Russian Federation,” it said.
