Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has launched criminal proceedings against Russian journalist Dmitry Kiselyov on suspicion of financing terrorism.

SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko said at a briefing on July 4 that a number of criminal cases had been opened on the organization and financing of terrorism and assisting terrorist activities in Ukraine, including against the CEO of the Russia Today news agency Dmitry Kiselyov.

According to him, the financing of terrorism and separatism in Ukraine is carried out with the help of Russian banking institutions, and former Ukrainian officials, including those who served in the Defense Ministry.

The third party is mass media lead by Mr. Kiselyov, who is twisting reports about the situation of Ukraine, including through the International Press Institute, the SBU chief said. Separatist organizations are funded through this institute, he added.

He said the Security Service of Ukraine together with the State Financial Monitoring Service blocks related accounts immediately after they are exposed.
