You're reading: Stoltenberg: Cold War over, must stay in past

Munich– The world should not be allowed to return to a Cold War reality, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Feb. 6.

The Cold War is history and must remain in the past, he told a security conference in Munich.

What NATO needs now is faster, efficient and mobile forces rather than more forces, he said.

After the Cold War NATO switched to cooperation, not confrontation with Russia, he said.

In the future both sides can start drawing benefits from their cooperation, but only if Russia wants such cooperation, Stoltenberg added.
