Donetsk Regional State Administration Head Serhiy Taruta is confident the OSCE can help create a demilitarized zone around Donetsk.

A report posted on the state administration’s Web site said he expressed the opinion at a meeting with OSCE representatives on Oct. 9.

‘The government is confident the OSCE can render effective assistance to the Ukrainian authorities in building a demilitarized zone not only around Mariupol but also around the regional center which will help de-escalate tensions in Donetsk region to a significant degree,’ the report said.

Taruta also told mission members that the main task of the regional authorities was to provide comfortable living conditions to persons displaced from the anti-terrorist operation zone during the fall and winter season.

The mission members said they had been addressing the problems of displaced persons since late August when they started working in Mariupol.
