You're reading: Turkish president assures Poroshenko of support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and his peace plan

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the framework of the NATO summit in Newport (Wales) have discussed cooperation between the two countries and agreed to soon hold a meeting of the commission for strategic partnership.

‘The president of Turkey noted the strategic nature of cooperation between the two countries and pledged support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as the peace plan of the Ukrainian president,’ the press service of the Ukrainian head of state reported.

According to the press service, discussing the situation in Crimea, Erdogan called unacceptable the fact that the former chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Mustafa Jemilev (Cemilev), is not allowed to get back home.

He also stressed that Turkish airlines would not operate direct flights to Crimea.
