Ukrainian troops deployed in eastern Ukraine came under 15 attacks from militant forces on Wednesday, with one soldier being killed and four others wounded, the press center of the anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country has reported.

“During a special mission of detecting, blockading and destroying illegal armed units we lost one Ukrainian serviceman, who passed away as a result of wounds. Four others who had been wounded were taken to a medical institution,” the center said in a statement.

Most of the 15 attacks targeted checkpoints, provisional bases and observation posts in the area of Bakhmutivka.

“Mortars and artillery were used in the attacks. The [government] forces were carrying out strikes and suppressing militants’ firing positions,” the center said.

Troops deployed at Donetsk airport came under two attacks, the statement said.

“Our soldiers drove the attackers back with fire. We have taken extra measures to improve the defense of that strategic facility,” it said.
