The Ukrainian Defense Ministry says the positions of the Ukrainian troops continue being shelled in the Debaltseve area in southeastern Ukraine.

The situation in the “Debaltseve encirclement” remains tense, the report says.

“The situation in the area of Debaltseve remains most tense, militants continue to hold massive artillery strikes on residential areas of Debaltseve, knowing that there is only the civilian population there,” the Defense Ministry said in a report published on its website on Feb. 13.

At the same time, it says that “all attempts made by the enemy to take over new positions and change the existing division line in their favor are being repelled by the Ukrainian military.”

The work of the Ukrainian artillery and the concentration of considerable forces in the area make it possible to say this foothold will not be encircled and cut off from supply and communications, the ministry said.
