You're reading: Ukrainian pilot’s defense lawyer to seek case closure

Moscow - The defense lawyers for the Ukrainian female pilot Nadia Savchenko who is suspected of killing Russian VGTRK journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshyn will be petitioning for the case to be closed, said lawyer Mark Feygin.

“First we will file a petition for Sinyagovsky’s questioning to be added to the Savchenko case files and then will petition for the case closure,” the lawyer wrote on Twitter.

It was reported earlier that Savchenko, a 31-year-old navigator, was fighting with the Aidar volunteer battalion in eastern Ukraine when she was captured by illegal armed units in June near the town of Schastia, a suburb of Luhansk. It turned out on July 8 that Savchenko was being held at a detention facility in Voronezh.

The Russian Investigative Committee claims Savchenko crossed the border without documents, pretending to be a refugee, and was detained for identification, which showed that she was a suspect in the case involving the killing of Russian VGTRK journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin near Luhansk. She was formally charged with murder on July 9.

Savchenko denies all charges guilt and says she was abducted on the territory of Ukraine.
