Ukrainian and Russian representatives are working on setting a date for the next meeting of the trilateral contact group for eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian presidential press secretary Andriy Zhyhulin said.
In commenting on reports that Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov
visited the Ukrainian presidential secretariat on Friday, Zhyhulin said,
“Contacts between Ukrainian government officials and Russian diplomats are
essential for coordinating the date for a meeting of the trilateral contact
group.”
He also called such meetings acceptable, as the contact group’s meeting in
Minsk has still not taken place.
The contact group for settling the crisis in Ukraine includes former
Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, OSCE envoy Heidi Tagliavini, Russian
Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, and representatives of the
self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk people’s republics.
