The so-called Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics in the east of Ukraine are criminal organizations, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller has said.

The U.S. does not consider the activities of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics to be legal, she said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday answering a question of Interfax-Ukraine about the possibility of the recognition of the DPR and LPR as terrorist organizations.

According to Gottemoeller, the U.S. has problems with the recently held elections in these self-proclaimed republics and with the seizure of enterprises. All of those are a crime, so there are many reasons to condemn what they are doing in the east of Ukraine, the under secretary said.
