Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk sees progress in attempts to settle the situation in some eastern regions of Ukraine.

“It would be fair to say that the situation in Donbas has been
reversed in the past several days. And when those who represent Donbas
and control Donbas said today that no self-proclaimed thuggish ‘Donetsk
Republics’ will govern Donbas or Ukraine, I can say that this can also
be listed among the achievements in our joint activity,” Yatsenyuk said
at a national unity roundtable conference in Mykolaiv on May 21.

Yatseniuk praised the work of the previous conferences.

“Certain things of a political nature have been done, including the
memorandum [of mutual understanding and peace] that has been passed by
the parliament. This is also a step, and it is better to have this
memorandum than not. And it is better to show that we are capable of
reaching consensus at least on some matters than have assault rifles and
thugs in Donetsk and Luhansk,” Yatsenyuk said.
