WASHINGTON, July 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Wednesday unsealed charges against five men, accusing them of directing and being involved in the plot to attack the New York subway system at the behest of al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan.
Those charged include Adnan El Shukrijumah, a Saudi native, who is believed to be a leader of al Qaeda’s operations program and allegedly recruited Najibullah Zazi and others to carry out attacks in the United States. Zazi pleaded guilty earlier this year to the plot.
