(AP) – A passenger bus caught fire in eastern Ukraine early Oct. 14, killing five people, emergency officials said.

One person was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The fire appeared to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit on the bus, which had been carrying 42 passengers, said Valentyna Pedos of Ukraine’s Emergency Situations Ministry.

The vehicle caught fire near the village of Dolyna in the Donetsk region as it was traveling between two eastern Ukrainian cities. Firefighters extinguished the flames after about 20 minutes.

Emergency officials set up a special commission to investigate the accident. No further details were available.

Ukraine’s passenger bus fleet still consists of many aging, Soviet-era vehicles.
