Dushanbe - Chinese holding company Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical intends to build a mineral fertilizer plant in Tajikistan with annual capacity of 450,000 tonnes, the press service of Tajikistan's Ministry of Industry and New Technologies said on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The corresponding agreement was signed by Tajikistan’s Industry and New Technologies Minister Shavkat Bobozoda and the head of Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical, Wan Chuancheng.

‘Capacity of the future facility is 450,000 tonnes of fertilizer per year, including 150,000 of phosphate fertilizers that will be produced,’ the press service said.

The size of assumed investments and the timeframe for construction were not disclosed.

The plant will operate on gas received from bituminous coal. China and Tajikistan already have experience in working with similar equipment. Chinese companies built such units at a Talco aluminum plant.

After shipments of gas stopped from Uzbekistan in early 2013, Tajikistan has been actively increasing bituminous coal production. In January-August 2014, production double year-on-year to 419,500 tonnes.
