Uzbekistan's president has died, the Turkish prime minister said on Sept. 2, plunging Central Asia's most populous nation into political uncertainty unprecedented in its 25 years of independence.
“The president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has lost his life,” Binali Yildirim told a Turkish cabinet meeting. “We send our condolences and share the pain of the Uzbek people.”
