ATHENS, July 7 (Reuters) - Greek lawmakers agreed in principle on an overhaul of the country's ailing pension system in a preliminary vote late on Wednesday.

For the bill to become law it must be approved in a second vote expected on Thursday, the day when a general 24-hour strike has been organised by the main public and private sector unions against the pension reform.

The pension bill is a key requirement of a 110 billion euro ($138.6 billion) EU/IMF bailout.
Some 159 lawmakers voted for the bill, while 137 voted against the reform.
