Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl targeted by the Taliban, has jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize, alongside Indian child rights campaigner Kailash Satyarthi. The decision to give the joint prize was symbolic, the Nobel committee said, because it was important for "a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism".
