WASHINGTON, May 4 (Reuters) - Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has been named as Managing Director of the World Bank Group, the World Bank said in a statement on Tuesday.
World Bank President Robert Zoellick said Indrawati has been an outstanding finance minister and said she would play a key role in helping to lead the Bank as it moves to strengthen client support and implement reforms.
"Ms. Indrawati brings a unique set of skills and experience to the World Bank Group, from the vantage point of an advancing Middle-Income country that still faces significant challenges of poverty," Zoellick said in a statement.
Indrawati has served as Indonesia’s Minister of Finance since 2005, guiding economic policy for one of the largest countries in Southeast Asia.
In her new role, Indrawati will supervise three World Bank regions: Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, and East Asia and Pacific, the statement said.
Indrawati will join the Bank on June 1, and will succeed Juan Jose Daboub who completes his four-year term as Managing Director on June 30, the Bank said.
