You're reading: Lavrov:Global crisis will not thwart South Stream, Nord Stream projects

Moscow, January 16 (Interfax) - The global economic crisis will have no major effect on the implementation by Russia of important international projects, including South Stream and Nord Stream.

“The projects you have listed here will not be shelved due to the crisis,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Friday.

“Certainly, the crisis will affect foreign policy, and not merely from the practical point of view because of lack of funding for some large-scale projects,” he said.

“Some might be implemented more slowly. But I am convinced that most of these projects will not be affected because they are important for developing the global economy, including solving the crisis,” he said.

“The impact of this crisis on foreign policy proper and the methods of pursuing this foreign policy will be more important,” he said.

“The very fact of how quickly the G20 summit was organized in Washington once again shows that no one can deal with such sort of problems alone and that no solution can be found to such problems in a unipolar world,” Lavrov said.
