Ukraine is refusing to transit gas along the routes which have always been used for supplies to European consumers, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
“It is not some additional pipe, it is the main export pipe with a 1420 millimeter diameter, which has traditionally supplied gas to Europe,” Medvedev said at a meeting with the Bulgarian, Moldovan and Slovak prime ministers.
“The lock bar on the Ukrainian border was never opened,” he said.
“Ukraine continues the gas blockade,” he said.
“Despite all the efforts by Russia, the European Union, despite the [gas] monitoring agreements, the lock bar on the Ukrainian side was never opened,” the president said.
Hopefully, the meeting participants were able “to look at this situation with their own eyes during their visit to Gazprom,” the president said.
“I hope that you have seen for yourself that all technological decisions have been complied with, observers are sitting at their places, documenting the respective positions,” Medvedev said.
“It is sad to see how the conflict, which was initially seen as an economic issue, is being translated into politics,” he said.
