Milan, July 23 (Interfax) - The G8 leaders are prepared to update the UN's activity but differ on opinions on how to do it, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.
"The United Nations Organization should change in line with the changes occurring in the world," Medvedev said at a joint press conference with Italian Primer Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
"We talked about this quite extensively and openly at the G8 summit in Canada. The positions are not the same on everything even within the G8, but what is important is that we are prepared to modernize the UN’s and the UN Security Council’s activities," Medvedev said.
The Russian leader commented on the UN in light of international problems he had discussed with Berlusconi earlier. "These were conflict situations, these were problems related to international terrorism and countries that do not always properly honor their international commitments," he said.
In particular, the talks concerned the Middle East, Afghanistan, and the Iranian nuclear program, he said.
