ROME, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Rebel Italian lawmakers are set to abstain in a no-confidence vote against a junior minister in Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's cabinet, avoiding an immediate showdown with the government, they said on Tuesday.
MPs loyal to parliament speaker Gianfranco Fini, who broke with Berlusconi last week, said after talks with centrist opposition parties that they were inclined to abstain from Wednesday’s vote on junior justice minister Giacomo Caliendo. The final decision will be announced later on Tuesday.
