PARIS, June 6 (Reuters) - The popularity rating of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, two years away from an election, has fallen again, according to a survey published on Sunday for left-wing newspaper Liberation.
The Liberation/ViaVoice survey said 34 percent of those polled had a positive opinion on Sarkozy — down 4 points from a previous poll in May and a record low for the survey.
Sixty-four percent had a negative opinion of Sarkozy while 2 percent had no opinion. Just over 1,000 people were polled for the survey.
The Liberation poll mirrored a TNS Sofres survey for right-wing newspaper Le Figaro on Thursday, which also showed Sarkozy’s popularity ratings at a new low.
Despite his slump in the opinion polls, Sarkozy’s ratings have not yet hit the lows registered by his predecessors.
Jacques Chirac’s rating fell to 27 percent on three separate occasions during his 12 years in power while Francois Mitterrand has the all time record low of 22 percent.
