AMSTERDAM (AP) — Security officers hustled Queen Beatrix away from a Memorial Day ceremony when a commotion in the crowd raised concerns of a possible attack, but the Dutch monarch has returned after what is apparently a false alarm.
Several thousand people are attending the ceremony at the war monument in Dam Square in central Amsterdam.
It is unclear what prompted the security scare, but it apparently began when a cry of alarm went up from the crowd.
The master of ceremonies announced the alert was caused when someone fell ill.
Tuesday’s ceremony resumed with Beatrix looking unsettled as she resumed her role.
