Severny airfield near Smolensk was fit to accept the Soviet-era Tupolev Tu-154 airplane which was carrying Polish President Lech Kaczynski.
"The airfield’s equipment allows it to accept various types of aircraft, including Yak-40 and Tu-154 planes," Tatyana Anodina, Interstate Aviation Committee chairperson, said at a news conference at the Interfax main office in Moscow on Wednesday.
