BEIJING (AP) — Chinese state media says 23 people have been killed by a tornado and strong winds in southwestern China.

The official Xinhua News Agency says more than 150 were injured and some houses collapsed after the storm early Thursday morning in the city of Chongqing.

The report says the reports from local officials on the number of dead and injured are still incomplete.

Xinhua says the tornado struck the area around 2 a.m. and killed people in the counties of Dianjiang and Liangping.
