JOHANNESBURG (AP) — UEFA president Michel Platini has been taken to hospital in Johannesburg after collapsing in a restaurant on Friday.
Platini’s special adviser William Gaillard tells The Associated Press that Platini fainted in a restaurant, but initial tests at a hospital show that his condition is not serious.
Gaillard says from London that Platini has had flulike symptoms and a mild fever for a few days because of the cold weather in South Africa.
Platini’s a member of the FIFA executive committee and FIFA’s World Cup organizing committee, and is in Johannesburg for the final on Sunday.
The France playing great, who has led Europe’s football authority since 2007, inspired his team to reach the World Cup semifinals in 1982 and 1986.
