Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus has discussed the situation with Russian natural gas deliveries to Europe with Ukrainian and Polish presidents Viktor Yuschenko and Lech Kaczynski respectively.

“The Ukrainian and Polish leader asked Adamkus to actively support Ukraine’s position in this dispute and assist explaining it in the European Union,” the Lithuanian presidential press service told Interfax on Thursday.

“The international community should more actively search for a common solution aimed at the resumption of gas deliveries to freezing EU countries,” the press service quoted Adamkus as telling his Ukrainian and Polish counterparts.

“The current situation is unfavorable for the resolution of vital energy problems,” he added.

The three presidents agreed to continue consultations on this issue in the future.
