You're reading: Wall Street Journal: EU sets up bloc-wide antiterror sanctions

BRUSSELS - The European Union agreed to new steps to enhance its ability to slap bloc-wide sanctions on people linked to or supporting Islamic State and al Qaeda terrorist groups.

After the Paris attacks of November 2015, EU governments pledged to take new measures to tackle Islamic State, including its sources of funding within the bloc. A series of terrorist attacks have taken place in Europe in the months since.
