Kharkiv – European Parliament observers - former Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox – have arrived at Kharkiv Central Clinical Hospital No. 5, where convicted former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is undergoing medical treatment.

As a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine reported, a motorcade with a minibus carrying Cox and Kwasniewski arrived at the hospital escorted by two police cars at 1547.

Supporters of Tymoshenko met the motorcade with shouts of “Set Yulia Free!”

Earlier, the EP observers met with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych at his administration in Kyiv, Ukraine’s Fifth Channel has reported. The meeting lasted an hour. The observers declined to disclose the results of their conversation with the head of state.

“We made the decision that during our mission we will not comment on anything, because we are working,” Cox said.

The EP observers came to Kyiv on October 29. Before going to Kharkiv, they met with Premier of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Kliuyev. As the Kommersant newspaper reported, Cox and Kwasniewski also met with Regions Party members, who asked them to convince the opposition that Tymoshenko’s issue is “not just the problem of the authorities”, and passed them bills on the matter that will be put to the vote at the Verkhovna Rada sitting on November 5.

This is the second visit of the EP observers to Ukraine after the decision to prolong their mission for a month, until November 12. The first visit took place on October 21-22.
