Former European Parliament President Pat Cox and former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski held a meeting with Tymoshenko’s relatives and supporters at the office of the EU Delegation to Ukraine. Members of the Batkivschyna Party also attended the meeting.

Cox and Kwasniewski are also planning to meet with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov.

It was decided during a visit by Azarov to Brussels to send EP representatives to observe the trials of Tymoshenko.
Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court found Tymoshenko guilty of abuse of office in signing gas supply agreements with Russia in 2009 and sentenced her to seven years in prison on October 11, 2011. She started serving her prison term at a Kharkiv-based penitentiary at the end of December 2011
