New band Riffmaster takes to the stage in one of its first concerts. The band was formed in spring 2006 by members of Daz Machine, and its name comes from front man Andriy Antonenko’s nickname from those times. In contrast to Daz Machine, Riffmaster performs cheerful, energetic funk music and sings not only in Russian, but also in Ukrainian.

Lake of Tears and Dismember
Two Swedish bands, Lake of Tears and Dismember, will give several concerts in Ukraine’s biggest cities. Dismember, considered one of the fathers of Swedish death metal, started performing at the end of the 1980s. Lake of Tears, a Swedish gothic metal band formed in 1992, is known for its wide range of styles – from doom metal to psychedelic pop, classic rock to progressive metal. The upcoming concert is sure to be a rocking event for Kyiv’s heavy metal fans.

“Snickers Urbania” fest
The festival of extreme sports and youth culture from graffiti to break dancing, “Snickers Urbania,” comes to the Ukrainian capital. The event will feature the best representatives of various urban subcultures – rollerbladers, skateboarders, cyclists and break-dancers – showcasing their talents. Energizing music will be provided by Ukrainian hip-hop bands TNMK and Tartak.

“TAWOO.” Ensemble of Japanese Drummers
The performance of the Japanese drummers’ ensemble “TAWOO” will open the
festival “Month of Japan in Ukraine” aimed at developing cultural ties
between the two countries. The performance of “TAWOO” will highlight a fragment of ancient Eastern culture for Ukrainians and is a show not to be missed.

Czech artist Mykhaylo Shchihol presents an exhibition of his works which, according to him, live their own independent lives. Shchihol has over 40 exhibitions to his name, mostly in the USA and Czech Republic. Originally an architect, he began painting in 1990, and since then has earned a reputation as a talented painter.

“Plastic Flowers.” Paintings by Olena Polyashchenko
Paintings by Olena Polyashchenko, an artist from Kharkiv, will be exhibited at Tsekh gallery. In her paintings, Polyashchenko depicts people in the era when plastic surgery and artificial ways of prolonging life are common practices. The characters in her pictures with ideal bodies and faces often hidden in plastic bags try to see their future and fill the emptiness inside of them. A contributor to numerous projects and exhibitions, Polyashchenko calls on her audience to question the meaning of life.

The Theater on the Left Bank presents the staging of the comedy “Wood-Goblin” by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov under the name of “26 Rooms.” The play was presented for the first time at the end of the previous theater season and impressed the audience with its frequent set changes and realistic acting. The theater company offers a modern view of the classical play in order to make it more comprehensible for today’s audience.

BenQ-Siemens Best Sound: Tour Final Party. Satoshi Tomiie
The producer of mobile phones BenQ-Siemens throws parties featuring the best Ukrainian deejays as well as guests from abroad. The headliner of the upcoming event is Satoshi Tomiie, Japan’s most successful international deejay and house producer. Having started his music career playing in school bands, Tomiie eventually became a professional deejay and moved to New York, where he worked with and made remixes for U2, David Bowie and Mariah Carey. Today he spends most of his time touring the best night clubs of the world, and this time he will make a stop in Kyiv.

The final lap of the first Cup of Ukraine in Drag Racing will involve the best racers from the previous rounds. However, it is still unclear who is the most likely winner in Ukraine’s first drag racing tournament. Everything will be resolved this weekend, when all the candidates for victory hit maximum speed.

The Ukrainian basketball team will face Sweden on its way to the European Basketball Championship. The Ukrainian team is in a transition stage, with new coach Vitaliy Lebedynskiy and a younger generation beginning to step in for the older, experienced players.
